Hokey Smoke, Bullwinkle. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends was on TV from 1959 to 1973. It was created by funnyman, Jay Ward. It was definitely more adult than most animated features, more slapstick than most comedies and more apt to make fun of its’ bread-and-butter sponsors. In their different adventures, you saw Rocky, the flying squirrel, Bullwinkle the moose, Boris Badenov and Natassa Fatale (Russian spies), Dudley Do-Right (Canadian mounty), Mr. Peabody (genius pooch), Aesop and Son (father and son philosopher team) or the older-lady fairy from Fractured Fairy Tales (crazy renditions of favorite fairy tales) do “their thing”. We remember it as being awesome in the belly-laugh-department for so many reasons. Happy Rocky and Bullwinkle Day!
