Retro Reproduction Iron Banks
The history of old mechanical banks is fascinating and dates back to the American Civil War. The public began hoarding coins when the US Government began issuing paper currency in the late 1860’s. Americans loved the idea of these clever banks holding their coin savings. These fanciful banks were originally produced from 1869 to 1940. Since original mechanical banks sell for well over $1,000, many popular mechanical banks were re-produced in the late 20th century, from 1980 to 2000. All the banks in this collection are reproductions but are beautifully made and finished and still do cute things for a penny.
